RESISTANCE OF PLASMODIUM FALCIPARUM TO CHLOROQUINE IN SOUTH EASTERN IRAN
In vivo and in vitro assessments of the response of P. falciparum to chloroquine using WHO standard kits and techniques were carried out in I ran Shahr, Sistan and Baluchestan province of Iran in 1985. In the in vivo assessment, 24 malaria patients treated with chloroquine (25mg/kg over three days) were followed up for one to four weeks. The mean parasite clearance time was 4.3 days and in...
متن کاملTreatment Failure of Dihydroartemisinin/Piperaquine for Plasmodium falciparum Malaria, Vietnam
We conducted a study in Binh Phuoc, Vietnam, in 2015 on the therapeutic efficacy of dihydroartemisinin/piperaquine for Plasmodium falciparum malaria. A high number of treatment failures (14/40) was found, and piperaquine resistance in Vietnam was confirmed. A change in the malaria treatment policy for Vietnam is in process.
متن کاملDihydroartemisinin-piperaquine for treating uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria
BACKGROUND The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends Artemisinin-based Combination Therapy (ACT) for treating uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria. This review aims to assist the decision-making of malaria control programmes by providing an overview of the relative effects of dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine (DHA-P) versus other recommended ACTs. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the effective...
متن کاملA surrogate marker of piperaquine-resistant Plasmodium falciparum malaria: a phenotype–genotype association study
BACKGROUND Western Cambodia is the epicentre of Plasmodium falciparum multidrug resistance and is facing high rates of dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine treatment failures. Genetic tools to detect the multidrug-resistant parasites are needed. Artemisinin resistance can be tracked using the K13 molecular marker, but no marker exists for piperaquine resistance. We aimed to identify genetic markers o...
متن کاملGenetic alteration in drug resistance markers of Plasmodium falciparum.
Plasmodium falciparum shows plasticity in its genome. For its survival it can delete certain genes (or portions) if not needed for its growth and has the capability to regulate its genes under various stages of its life cycle as well as under unfavourable environmental conditions. Parasite shows enormous amount of antigenic variation under immune pressure leading to the emergence of vaccine res...
